Farm De Hagepoorter is a realisation of the family Tijl Waelput - Maite Arjona. The buildings were purchased in 2010. After a huge refurbishment doors could be opened in 2014. Before the farm was property of the family Verdonck. Under the name "Hof ter Weiden" the farm is listed in the inventory of architectural heritage. The holiday houses are  established in the barn that dates from 1871 and partially in the main building that dates from the 18th century (or elder?). The cow stable that was built in 1973  onto the main building was demolished in order to restore the building's orginal look . The stylish decoration was done with the help of Stefaan Lagrou from the decoration company Reygerlo from Beernem.

Hagepoorter is a word from the Middle Age and means "citizan of a city who lives outside of that city". It is a wink to ourselves. We have been living in Brugge for many years where we runned first hotel Botaniek and afterwords hotel Jan Brito . But the name also refers to the hedge that we planted over 500 meters of the property. In cooperation with the ecological society Regionaal Landschap "Houtland" we wanted to contribute to support biodiversity. Besides the hedge with autochthonous plants we also planted a new orchard with old fruit races where woodlandsheep graze. This old sheep race belongs to the living heritage of our region. We also planted more pollard willows to provide wood for our CO2-neutral heating system. A newly digged drinking pond for the caddle gives the endagered amphibians new life changes (frogs, toads and salamanders).
